VIDEO-INSTALLATION, 2021–2019
Telluric is a mix media work inspired by the erotic ethos found in the poetry from antiquity, and by its evocative food metaphors to describe or entice love, beauty, and sensuality. The works in the exhibition are inspired by three specific texts: The Song of Songs (Davidic monarchy era, circa 1000 B.C.E.), from the Old Testament; The Symposium, by Plato (circa 385–370 B.C.E.), and the remaining fragments from the poems written by Sappho (Lesbos, circa 600 B.C.E.).
The installation is formed by visual compositions with foods and spices that are mentioned in the selected poems, or that were knowingly served to guests during the symposia in Greek antiquity.
Telluric attunes the subtle and evocative sensuality of the elements found in these texts and invites the viewers to sense the realm of colors, scents, textures, and flavors that are present in the context and imagery of the sources I address.
